Observation on Avast 5.1.889
« on: January 15, 2011, 09:47:09 AM »
I just download and install today from this link

http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10019223.html?part=dl-85737&subj=dl&tag=button

It was successful installation with no problems.

But i just noticed that the Latest 5.1.889 versus the 5.0.667 if not mistaken the number.

V 5.0 is much faster in terms of scan speed and mostly GUI.

V5 a quick scan runs only 3-4mins. But V5.1.889 takes about 6mins :o

My system lags on v5.1 GUI not on V5.

You would say why? because it has nothing been change on GUI.

As ive said its on my system.

Dont ask me what system, Avast Version, ram im using because its on my profile signature.

I test it on my Pentium D.

Added info.
I use the steps for removing the old version of Avast.
Uninstall
Reboot
Uninstall utility
Reboot
Install
Reboot.

Well my scan logs don't show any major difference in scan duration. If you did a clean reinstall, your scans would be initially slower as you have removed the persistent cache, which takes a little time to build up. This helps scan speed as files in the persistent cache if they haven't changed aren't scanned.

You also have to ensure that your scan settings elect to a) use the persistent cache and b) gather data for it.

This is the same for both my systems, XP Pro in my signature and my netbook with win7 starter a dual core Atom N550 1.5ghz chip and 2gb RAM. The scan duration is much slower than the desktop as it doesn't have the same grunt.

The GUI loads quickly on both even though the netbook has a low powered Intel chip on the motherboard. I can't do much in the way of comparison with 5.0.677 on the netbook as it wasn't on there that long before installing 5.1.864, but I really didn't see any appreciable difference in any of the avast functions.
