CAN'T RUN A SCAN
« on: August 29, 2004, 01:29:49 AM »
HI,
I keep getting this error message when trying to run a scan (start avast Antivirus):

The memory test will run and complete and then I get a small box that says - Application can't load skin function "usiGetSkin" failed

MY SYSTEM INFORMATION

Windows XP, Using version 4.1 Home Edition of avast 4, VPS version 0435-2, using Pentium llll with 14.2 GB, connecting through DSL using firewall (I think.. well, I use AdAware it comes with it's own firewall and I have option of approving everything that tries to load), My e-mail client is Outlook Express.

What can I do to make it work?
Tried updating but it says that I'm already up to date... Should I reinstall? and if so.. Should I uninstall first and then reinstall... AND can I use the same registration Key if I 'DO' uninstall?

Thanks In Advance!! : )
Renee

Welcome to the Forum.
Let's try a repair and see if that works.
A repair is done by going to the add/remove option in the controlpanel.
This picture should help.

Still getting the same error message .. But Thanks for your quick response...

SO, do you think I should uninstall and reinstall.. and if so, will I be able to use the same registration key?

Just a thought (welcome here by the way) if you can, download the set-up file for avast again. Once you've done that dis-connect from the internet by removing the cable from your modem so you won't be connecting without any anti-virus software.  Delete avast from add/remove programmes and re-install it after a reboot.

As an aside, do you use windowblinds or any other software to enhance the effects in windows?

I'm no expert here, just some things I would try first.

Try this:

1) Select START -> RUN...
2) In the row write this command:
            C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX

Please use Copy and then Paste to avoid any typos.
3) Press OK (or Enter).
4) Message saying that the file was successfully registered should
    appear.

Now should all work properly.
If that worked as I'm hoping it will. you can thank odpad for the fix.
Please let us know how you make out.

AdAware really isn't a firewall, get Zone Alarm.

Glad everything is working again.
We both got lucky this time. I just read about this problem in another post.
