Click on 'Control' in my signature.
Download and run avast External Control.
Disable avast! protection (see 'Main Control' option)  ;)

It is possible to pause any of the avast providers, this may release some RAM or you could Stop On-access protection, this should also release some RAM.

However both of these options could leave you vulnerable especially if you are playing online games and your email program wouldn't work whilst this was shut down.

You could also download RejZor's avast! External Control program, this has an avast shutdown and an avast restart option.

My recommendation however, would be to increase you RAM (if possible) since RAM costs are relatively cheap, rather than leave your system vulnerable.

The components of Avast are not taking up much memory. I guess you used the taskmanager to see the memory(?) The numbers there about the amount of memory that is used by a application are not acurate, as, I think it was Vlk has, explained in another thread on this board.

Games nowadays are mostly using a lot of video memory. That is not your ram. Video memory and ram are two different things. Looking at what you told us sofar, I would say it is time to upgrade your system.

And personally I would never compromise security for a game.

What are the minimum requirements for the game and what are your system specs?

After all, widespreadpanic, did you try what we suggested (use avast! External Control)?  ???

I think it's pointless offering any further advice or asking how they got on untill widespreadpanic gets back to us.
