how long the 4.8 version will be updated
« on: January 18, 2011, 06:09:12 PM »
hello to all, always tend to be a bit 'lazy updating new versions of programs, particularly when those i have in use works well without giving me problems,  so I'm still using version 4.8, which updates regularly.
but now,in these last few days often appears a window of avast saying that the current version i use is obsolete and.....pushing to install the 5 version.

I would like to keep version 4.8 as long as possible but I would also like not to change it in the really last day, because maybe in that days i should be busy (as in these days, full of things to do and have no time to install, study well, and set all things of new version.
so I would like to plan the right time to pass to the new version.

some of you have any idea how long, probably will continue updates iAVS (archive virus) in version 4.8?

days, weeks, or months?

I thank in advance all those who will answer me
 :) :) :)

It's not defined yet, but some months...
Don't be lazy... Version 5.1 has a lot of new features for your protection.

than's a lot! i will plan it to do it.
hoping to find out no problems in changing.
it's 2,5 years i use 4.8avast and i know it well, changing is everytime a bit  :-\ :'(
 ;D
i've also to decide what to do with 3 file "virus" that i have in my wife computer they are safe in virus trash can.
i think is better put these file on computer again so away from virus trash can in computer.
than to unistal 4.8, then install 5. and analyse disc "c" again to see what new version says about these 3 file.

but i will see!

thank's a lot!

All you need to do is update. Leave the files in the chest and after the update,
simply check them. If they still show as a virus, then delete them.

@ stratocaster
Avast 5.0 has been out for a year now, so plenty of time to have been planning. It was suggested that it would be 6-12 months after the release of avast 5 that avast 4.8 support would end end we are very much in that area now.

Avast 5.1 was released at the start of this month, so time is marching on and as they say the writing is very much on the wall for avast 4.8. Avast5 offers better protection and is lighter on resources than avast 4.8.

The only thing that is keeping avast 4.8 alive at the moment I would say are corporate clients using avast 4.8 pro, but as they migrate to avast5 support for avast 4.8 will end. Avast 4.8 hasn't had a program update in over a year, before avast5 was released and that is unlikely to change so it is not getting very long in the tooth.

So I would recommend you make the move sooner rather than later as fewer and fewer people on the forums can remember much about it so should any need help in 4.8, the knowledge isn't there.
