« on: August 29, 2004, 11:27:56 PM »
Whenever I boot up I get a popup from Avast about imapi.exe. It asks me if I want to allow the temp file. First, what is this? Do I need this or how can I turn it off so it doesnt popup??? Thanks for any help,
Beverley

On a healthy system imapi.exe is a cdrom driver. On a infected system it can be a irc worm.

Please answer Bob's question and also mention if you use irc or not.

Babeann, wellcome to forums.
Actually, it's not a default action. You should activate it without knowing  ::)
See the Standard Shield configuration for the Blocker... You can disable that options without loosing protection  8)

IRC=Internet Related Chat, one of the oldest chat options on the Internet and still one of the most used. The most used application for it is MIRC

Eddie, I'm confused. I use MSN messenger sometimes. What does that have to do with these popups?
Thanks,
Beverley

Hi Bob,
I should activate what without knowing?
How specifically can I block that popup? I went into the Standard Shield & dont see anything pertaining to the imapi.exe.
Thanks for your patience with me.
This only started when I reformatted my hard drive & downloaded Avast again.

Hi,

browser thru all the tabs in standard-shield settings, and somewhere you will see a checkmark that indicates that
Deletion of files should be BLOCKED    .. or some similar wording..
-> remove that checkmark -> OK
(P.S.: imapi.exe won't be mentioned there..)

if the settings don't remain,
- make sure that you are logged in as Admin
- read the USER'S FAQs in the OFF-Topic-Forum ;)
