Will avast! for linux handle windows virus?

A beginner question -- If a files is infected by windows virus, will avast! for linux be able to handle it?

Hi,

I believe the answer is basically yes, but even if I am correct, where possible prevention is the best solution which ideally means active guards from avast! for Windows (when using Windows as opposed to Wine).

Most probably, yes, avast for Linux could detect the infection.
Remember that the virus definitions are the same for Windows, Linux and Mac.
