Computer stopped working after enabling 2nd Processor
« on: February 01, 2011, 12:57:11 PM »
I just did format of my computer yesterday, Today I was just removing unneeded programs as normal, as I've always done through MSCONFIG (Programs, Services and A few boot up items). Restarted - Fine. I then went back into it and enabled my 2nd processor in the boot > advanced menu as I've also always done. But then when I restarted my computer wouldn't boot back up.

It get's stuck with an _ showing. It does not load after waiting. Theres nothing in bios except the logs which show error 601 (Might be 6001) for both attempts at booting. I tried to open the recovery console, but it would not. It seems after functions are fine (Could this be a graphics related issue).

I have an AMD processor and ATI Radeon Graphics Card.

I do not have any original OS install discs (as they don't seem to come with computers anymore) as I use a Recovery Disc to boot back up.

Recent actions include:
Removing unneeded software
Removing Associated Startup Items
Removing Associated Services
Enabling 2nd Processor
Installed Vista Service Pack 2
Installed Vista Platform Update

Also on another note: My Laptop was getting unusually hotter. It was already too hot before. But now it was just burning like fire.

See:
Notes for a Happier Computer and User
• Do not use "msconfig" to disable services, type "services.msc" in the Run box instead!
http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm

The use of MSCONFIG as a start up manager is not recommended.

Good News, I've managed to get the recovery console running and am installing my OS again.

I'll keep that inmind YoKenny, Thanks  ;)

Still, if anyone has an answer to why this would have happened, it would be just as good.
