I have updated without problems to the version 5.1.889 in my W7-64bits, but some portable programs that Avast says that they are free of virus, they do not work and I have verified that only they work if I uninstall Avast....it's a bug

Hello JMNP: It's hard to determine just what the issue might be; bug or not? :-\
Could you provide further information, other users may have similar issue.
What programs? What Avast product? Free/Pro/AIS.

We experienced the same problem.  Our sistems work on Windows 7 Ultimate x64, and have AVAST PRO installed, we use several portable applications for over six months and all of them work perfectly, then we install the upgrade of AVAST (version 5.1.889, and all portable applications stop working (they do not open, and windows report APPCRASH errors with Event ID: 1000 such as the following ones:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Faulting application name: Portable Code Visual To Flowchart 5.3.1030.exe, version: 2.1.18.5, time stamp: 0x00000004

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All our portable applications stop working and produce the same type of erros.... them we unistall AVAST and all applications work perfectly... therefore something is wrong with this new version of AVAST.  If AVAST do not produce a fix for this soon we will install another antivirus... this is the seccond time we have problmes with AVAST, last time it delete all our files (over two years of work) when AVAST identify virus on all files on the computer (back in 2010).

Do some one have a solution to this problem with the portable applications??????

Hi MGMS,

There have been problems with the behavior shield and a few programs, so please let us know if it works if you disable the behavior shield?

Hi MGMS,

temporary, you can workaround it by uninstalling behavioral shield.

Go to control panel | uninstall program | avast | change | uncheck behavioral shield  and finish.

After reboot, your application should work fine.

Thanks, for the info about unistalling behavioral shield,  I try to disable this function and the problem continues, then I talk to AVAST Tech Support and they indicate that they know about several problems with the version 5.1.889 (including this one) and that they where working on a patch or a new version to be released that will fix all problems on 5.1.889.  They advise to unistall version 5.1.889 and install the old 5.0.418 which do not have any problems, disable automatic update of program, and then wait for the new relase.  Since I not have any problems with that early version and do not have to much time to expend on experimentation, that is what I will do.

I accept that any version of any software may be released with some errors or bugs (I develop software my self -  :) ), particularly since it is almost impossible to test everything and release the version on time... but I believe that once a problem is discovered or reported by users, that should be mentioned on the FQA or a "known problems" section of the "support" web page.  That will save some time to users and eliminate the aggravation...
