Severe problem with 5.1.889 and a game installation program.
« on: January 27, 2011, 02:02:51 PM »
Avast 5.1.889 can neither scan nor coexist with the installation program for "AGON The Mysterious Codex" (www.viva-media.com). Regardless of the scan or behavior settings in Avast, my WinXP SP3 system comes to almost a complete halt when trying to scan or run AGON_setup.exe.
The program is a self-extracting archive of 662MB size. Windows explorer will stop responding and the nVidia icon in the systray will get lost on attempts to run the problem program. Even Task Manager has a hard time trying to clean up the problem.
A work around is to turn off file and behavior scanning while doing anything with this installation program, even trying to get the properties with a right-click.

I'm not sure if this behavior is limited to 5.1.889. In all other respects, 5.1.889 works well on my system. There is no infection in the AGON program and other installation programs don't have this effect on Avast.
