Today I got a notice from Avast that 5.1.889 was available so I installed it. As requested I let Avast reboot my computer.  When the reboot completed my Windows style settings were changed from Windows XP style to Windows Classic.

This is very annoying (and I believe it has happened with earlier releases) as I have to go to the Display Properties window and reestablish my XP style and colors.

Is this an Avast bug or is there some Avast setting I am missing?

I have never seen this happen and I have been using XP Pro and avast together for almost 7 years.

I also haven't seen this reported in the forums either.

Have you not save the style and colours into your own Modified theme, that way you should simply be able to restore that theme, see image (click to enlarge).

OK, as I stated this is not a big deal, just an annoyance.  I can save my style (as you suggested) or manually change to my XP style.  Easy to do.

Next time I get notified of a pending update to the Avast program, I will reboot my computer, do the Avast update, and reboot again to see if I can reproduce the problem.

I'm going to close this issue as I now believe Avast is not the problem.

I have successfully installed an Avast update on my other computer (an XP3 laptop) without having the problem and I sometimes see the problem when rebooting for other reasons having nothing to do with Avast.
