win32 trojan-gen {other} help me to get rid of it

i am new to typing new to virus's  but i just downloaded the virus protection called avast free virsion of the internet and thorough scaned my system,  i am running win 2000 and it started poping alerts left and right saying i have this win32 thing in atleast 20 files.  how can i get rid of it in begginer language so i dont lose any of my files.   please please help.

Ok what are the names of the files and full paths?

If avast does not come up with actaul virus names and just {other} then you need to go to trendmicro and scan your entire hard drive. Either then post the names and paths, or follow the instructions to remove the trojans given to you by trendmicro.
