Got a question about Avast with Outlook Express

What copies? do a search for avst4.ini and see how many copies you find? There is only one. Therefore, there is no back-up or copy.

I have been looking at it a number of times today, wondering why I can't do a screen-shot. It won't copy into Word or Paint or the clipboard. I don't have any of the screen-shot utilities that were being discussed on a recent thread. I think I should be able to do it with the Print Screen key, but I can't. Do you know why, by any chance?

I haven't used prntscrn since Windows 3.1. I use SnagIt.

4] Choose PASTE
5] Save it as jpg

Pressing the Alt+PrintScreen Keys together should copy the active window into the clipboard, this can then be pasted into your image editor (Paint, not familiar with this if it can do it).

This is the freeware screen capture program that I use ScreenPrint (Technical recommended it), it is very handy, easy to setup and use, when you click the Prt Sc key it will save it in the file type (.jpg, .gif, etc.) you chose when you setup the program.

The 'Copy' folders were not created by avast.
You should accidentally moved your mouse and create that copies...  

They are a 'backup' but, after all, it should be better place them in another folder and not just inside of avast one

A backup in the same Folder as the original is not very sound.
If something happens to the original, you loose every thing including your backup.
I can't for the life of me figure out why you would have a backup in the first place? After all, this is a program. As long as you have the install program, no backup is needed.
The ini file is different, it's like data created by a progam and is something that can change and if changed incorrectly, can effect the operation of the program itself.

By the way, Weatherbug can contain Adware,Spyware so be careful.

I might be able to accidentally copy a file instead of move it, but not all those files! I certainly did not even know they were there until yesterday, so I don't know how long they have been there. Is there any possibility that when I was preparing to download SP2 and Microsoft was making copies of everything, this could have been a sort of accidental result? I have looked other places and don't find any other files copied ---- it is a mystery if Avast! didn't do it!

We have been warned about Weather Bug, and that it is almost impossible to completely Uninstall; we discussed it and decided to wait and see --- we like the way it displays the local weather, a feature not available with all of the other weather programs since we live in a small city. We are hoping it will continue to behave on our computer --- if not, we will give it the boot!

I won't say that it will have a possibility...
Almost for sure you did it by accident... Never mind, just delete the 'Copy of' folders.

Can you rephrase or detail that, please? I don't understand --- What does "If you edit your added notes to email body" mean? Do you mean put the new copies some place in Outlook Express? Where should I put them?

The Internet Mail provider and the Outlook/Exchange plugin of avast have the possibility of adding notes into 'clean' and/or 'infected' files.

You can edit the format of these notes, both in txt and html format.
The edited notes were saved into 4 files: aswInfTg.html, aswInfTg.txt, aswClnTg.html and aswClnTg.txt.

So, you can backup these files to not lose your notes format.

Default notes format are on the help file > Setting up the Mail Protection > Format of Inserted Notes.

I have backed up the files in another folder.
Is it OK to delete empty folders that are in the DATA folder?
I have not edited any of the html or txt files (should I have?) so I don't need to do anything more, right?

I would advise against it, they may be empty now, but may be required in the future and if not there may stop some action.

The empty folders will not be taking up disk space, so there is little point in removing them.
