how to check downloads through Firefox?

Maybe this topic has  been already treated before by I couldn't find it.
I'm using Avast home edition for 1 week now and I  wonder why I paid for AV until that... Anyway, I noticed that Avast does not check files when downloading through my browser (Firefox). Have I missed something in the settings?

I also use Firefox and avast will scan your downloads.  Have you set your standard shield provider to scan all files?

If not, there is a possibillity Avast skips them, but don't worry. Avast will still scan them when you access them (on-access scanner).

And do a search on FireFox on this board. Many tips/hint/solututions will show up.

You could also download a Download Manager and let your downloads be controlled that way including automatic virus checking.
Check the helpfiles in Firefox for Download Managers.
I personally use StarDownloader. It's on their list of supported downloads.

Bob I don't think it's recommended, just on their list of supported download managers, as are some shareware and ad supported programmes. Download accelerator plus and GetRight spring to mind

Informed choice for download managers for Firefox, some are great if you need further features other than resume which is included natively.

I specifically mentioned StarDownloader because I know it to be free of Ad-Ware and Spyware. I used the free version for quite some time before spending my $9.95 and getting the Pro version.

Thanks for the reply Bob, I wasn't saying your information was incorrect.  Just posting because I don't believe it's recommended ...it's just supported as are some suspect programmes also.

I can't understand why a program which prides itself on it's ability to keep you safe on the internet would belittle it's intedgrity by recommending Suspect programs.
They are trying to build their reputation on the fact that they are different from Microsoft and yet they are doing some of the very same things.

 they don't recommend any of those programmes.  just ones that are supported.  It's an open platform, portable across different o.s. and all that is on the page I linked to are programmes that will work with a windows system.  It's for users to make an informed choice as to which they use after reading all the details.

They don't have a reputation to build, it's open source, dynamic and changing by input from it's users to improve.  There isn't any comparison to Microsoft as far as I can see who refuse to open their operating system to improvements by us ...their users.

They don't have to, the hackers are doing a number on the system already with out open source. :'( :'(

Ooooh my friend... it would be a mess if everyone selfproclaimed "programmer" tried to dig our OS... no, no, no... I don't want to see anyone touches our OS, no matter how many "holes" it has... admit it or not, Microsoft is taking good care of it... no one ever made any harm to my system and it will not, I'm assuring you my friend. Those selfproclaimed programers have good oportunity to play with million  others open source applications on the market, there is really no need to dig through the Windows. Maybe, they would bring some improvements, actualy that's for sure, but on the other hand, I'm pretty sure it would open new security "holes" in our base...   I'm really happy things look like right now...

Hehe... Linux is always available for those who like to cry... freedom of choice is the best thing... if you don't like MS or any of their product, there is plenty non-MS stuff out there...
