Windows is not Genuine?
« on: February 21, 2011, 08:32:30 PM »
Today I got a message after logging in that I needed to activate Windows and make sure it is genuine? I activated it when I installed it. If I go to System, it shows my product key and shows Windows is activated. It popped up once before when I was installing and uninstalling Avast! several times when 5.1 was causing problems. Should I be worried or should it be fine since System shows it's activated?

go there:
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate/validatenow.aspx

... just follow the instructions, you might be prompted to download an update and install it (Windows Activation Technology).

I've never seen it pop up where it had anything to do with avast!.
I have seen it or heard of it coming up after a windows update.

yeah sometimes WAT (windows activation...) just messes a bit ;D and the link I gave the OP helps to repair that - as long as his Windows is really genuine.

I had one a few months back - which kind of annoyed me - but hey ho a quick visit to the validation site cured it

Do I still need to go to the site since my system says it is activated? It also is legitimate. I got it through Academic Alliance at my college.

yes, it's just a matter of repairing the activation process.
