aswMonVd.dll failed Dll initialization
« on: February 23, 2011, 06:37:00 AM »
I have a situation:
Quote
Event Type:   Information
Event Source:   Application Popup
Event Category:   None
Event ID:   26
Date:      2/21/2011
Time:      9:13:03 PM
User:      N/A
Computer:   ALLMINE
Description:
Application popup: 16 bit Windows Subsystem : C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswMonVd.dll. An installable Virtual Device Driver failed Dll initialization. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.
And part of the situation is that I have Avast5 on this machine.

However, the hard drive went funky, corrupted my winnt\system32\config\system file and I had to clone the drive to a new drive, then recover an older version of that file to get windows to boot.

Recommendations on repairing this?

Found it out, was in this key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers]
It still had the old pointer to:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswMonVd.dll
But the key is a REG_MULTI_SZ value, hence, not search-able via regular registry searching.
