a bunch of weird stuff
« on: September 10, 2004, 12:32:02 AM »
I go hooked into coolweb somehow. I was researching Buddhism and ended up on a porn site! Ok. From that I got rivisor, jsexception, a Tcpip problem, and a million other things. Now, my computer turns itself off and it hates gaming from disc. Everything reads out ok. Yet, the ctfmon is trashed along with other stuff. Outside of the dreaded total reformat and reinstall that takes 12 discs and about 10 hours, what can I do? Or, what am I missing?
Thanx!

Welcome to the forums.

A good start would be to follow this link from Eddy's sig

http://members.home.nl/edeijl/acred/cleaning.htm

Excellent advice and links to the required software to clean your system.

If you are running nt/2000/xp a boot-time scan with avast! would probably  be a good first start.

Edit.

I wrote the original thread. Thank you for the help.
I tried a few of the suggestions and will give the others a shot. This combo of stuff is almost like something new because I can't find any info on any of it.
But, thanks again. Anything is worth trying at this point!

Coolweb is a rather old browser hijacker and probably one of the best known. Ofcourse new variants will appear from time to time. But sofar none was able to stay in place after people followed the instructions on my page ;)

Good luck and let us know the outcome.

me here again.
Here's what I've got going. Defender Pro firewall, Avast4 home edition, spybotsd, hijackthis, and a bunch of other stuff. There is a problem with ctfmon (removed the loader because it read out as trojan) and a Tcpip (is on the CCS services). I trashed these out though they're still there. Any activity sets them up again. I made them compressed and as read-only files. I need a more powerful method to search and destroy because it seems as if there's something else involved but I can't figure it out. I'm seeing it but not seeing it. With the software that I have (updated daily), what would be a good cleanup companion?
Thanks for the help so far!

Something important that might help....me here again.
Whatever is wrong wasted McAfee and the Defender antivirus programs. It also took out xoftspy and the Symatec programs. Once trashed, they could never be reinstalled. What is this thing that lives in my machine? All scans read out as okay or a trojan on ctf but don't remove it. All else is clean but something just seems so wrong.

Hi,
- what Win are you running anyway ?
- are all WindowsUpdates applied ?
- please post a hijackthis-Log here (run it in SafeMode)
- have you tried this:
Start -> Run:
SFC /Scannow   [ENTER]

 ;)
