In case anyone gets the idea to try this in Vista/7 with UAC enabled: Only do the registration from an elevated prompt (ie Run as administrator)!
If you do the registration as a normal user, you will kill (error 2738/2739) any MSI installer that uses vbscrip/jscript custom actions (very common).

Those files are not scripts in themselves, they are the .dll files that enable Windows to process scripts.

Thank you very much :)

I only wanted to be sure :)

edit : Ok, I installed again the complete AVAST 6.0.1091 free version, so with the script shield, I have put the .dll files as polochon wrote, and it perfectly works.
I hope I will not have to put the .dll at every boot.

So is it what the AVAST team should add to a next build ?

All four of my affected machines are running Win XP Pro SP3.

[Edit]

Yep  ;D

get the run box up then paste in the following pressing OK after each line

regsvr32 jscript.dll

 regsvr32 vbscript.dll

Works for me.  THANKS!

Confirmed, it works.
Thanks to whoever made the equation and came to this "not rocket science" fix of re-registering the DLLs. :)

Same problem here too. Been trying to figure out what turned media player red. Avast 6 has given me fits since the day I installed it. I should have known it had something to do with this too.

Avast 6, at least on my computer, is a big step in the wrong direction.

I running XP Home SP 3 too.

It appears to be that AVast has somehow broken the registration for some WMP's with those dll's - Although I would have thought if it broke for one it would have broken them all  ???

When wm player 11 is red ,the dialog box do not appears in Assistant recherche of explorateur windows :(not always) you can check ?

the re-registering microsoft files repair the "Assistant recherche of explorateur windows"

and wm player I found by chance.

Hello,

AVAST just upgraded to the newest version (6.0.1125) (I launched the upgrade after the message in the AVAST "pop up" saying that a new version is available.
And again, WMP11 became red ! I had to repeat this :

For WMP Player in RED

Demarrer-> Executer Copy past -> regsvr32 jscript.dll   OK

Demarrer-> Executer Copy past -> regsvr32 vbscript.dll  ok

It is Black !  :D

So would it mean that AVAST delete these entries ? It would be great if you could fix it, please :)

Thank you very much :)

No it doesn't mean that it deleted these items as they are clearly still present.

The problem is for whatever reason the jscript.dll and vbscript.dll are no longer registered. That is what the regserv32 command does, register the dll file so that the library can be used by WMP.
