I cannot find the Apply button!
« on: March 01, 2011, 08:39:42 AM »
After upgrading to Avast 6 I cannot find the Apply button anymore for actions in shield log section. I can specify the action for viruses, but there is no apply button. Is that because my virus chest is already empty?

I am running Vista Ultimate 32bit.

Hello amonra and welcome to the forum.

This has nothing to do with your Virus Chest.

If you go to your Avast main page (GUI) > Real-Time Shields > Expert Settings > Actions > you should be able to see how you can change your settings here, then click OK/Apply on the bottom of the page (you may need to scroll down the page).

If you are missing parts of the page, then try an Avast Repair:
- Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Avast Antivirus.
- Scroll down and choose Repair function in the pop-up window.
- Reboot.

Let us know if this fixes the problem.  Thank you.

There are no missing parts as far as I understand.

However, when I go to Real-Time Shields > Web Shield > Shield Log, there are a few items listed with selectable drop-down menu. But I see no apply button on this page which means I cannot run the desired action (There is a close button only!).

Do I overlook something? Do I still need repair my Avast installation? Thanks.

I'm not sure what language you installed of Avast.  The drop-down menu is correct for actions.  Can you give me a screen shot of the page you are questioning?  I am wondering if the "close" button is the same as "apply."  Is there also a "cancel" button next to the "close" button?  A screen shot is best for us to see what you actually have going on.

If you are unable to give a screen shot, then it cannot hurt to do the Avast Repair.  But try to give us a screen shot.  Thank you.

The picture show URL malware blocked by the webshield...
so the webshield blocked it before it entered your PC......so there is no file and therefor no action to take and no apply   ;)

There are auto-cleanup settings in settings/maintenance. But I think it's for file scan logs only. Am I wrong?

I think we need an Avast Team member to answer this one and I have alerted them.

Thank you for the screen shot; a picture is worth much more.  ;)

The image is slightly wrong ;) the arrow and question Mark should be pointing to the "action" column, since it doesn't belong in the webshield log...which is why it causes confusion.

As for cleaning the logs, well yes...it would be nice to be able to clear them...

Indeed selection of actions to perform has no meaning in the shields scan logs.
Thanks for reporting.

How about the question on how you can delete the items in these logs?

I have the very same problem as the OP. Does the fact there is no action to perform mean that the files were blocked before they got on to my PC, meaning no infection? and are they safe to be kept in there?, or do I need to perform anymore actions to make sure? ???...
