Big missing function
« on: February 27, 2011, 01:06:22 AM »
Hello,

i tried avast and it looks and works fine, but i haved a big problem
with using it:
i often download tools like "Sysinternals Suite", "NirSoft Utilities"
etc. and there are tools in it which are detected by avast as suspicious;
AND then the download is blocked and the (setup)file is not saved on my
harddisk. And i can't choose to "allow downloading/saving" in the avast
popup window because there is no such option !?
Because i know that these utilities and the setup files DON'T have any
viruses etc. in it, i REALLY NEED the option to choose "Allow ...."
in the avast popup window !!
(If you don't want the normal user to use/see that option you can
make an extra item in the options dialog like "For advanced users:
..add ALLOW SAVING to 'Found virus/suspicious file popup box' ")

Sorry for my english, i'm from germany

Thank you

You just need to disable PUP detection.

I just took a look at my settings and scan for pups is not enabled by default in the web shield. I would guess you must have enabled it. It may be a good idea to have it enabled but I can see it should not be enabled by default as it would cause the exact problem you are complaining of. You should be able to add the download url's to the exclusions tab in the web shield if you decide you want to keep pups enabled

Won't work - the filesystem shield will hit the file once it was downloaded.

unfortunately yes, and its something ive argued against since v5 beta aprox. but for some reason avast feels that the user shuld not be able to choose for themselves...
