Computer Hangs if Avast! is told to automatically update
« on: September 26, 2007, 06:03:33 AM »
I've been having a problem the past few months on my main rig. I've been running Avast! for years and LOVE it. However after some trial and error I've found, for me, that if I have Avast! (Im using Hime edition latest ver) set to automatically update the virus data base and itself, my computer will hang on boot a significant amount of times. This does not happen if setting Avast! to manual. I think it might be the update services is clashing with something else on my system but am unable to find out what.

I have uninstalled and re-installed Avast! even re-installing it in another directory. Same problem still occurs. Any help appreciated. My main rig is the only one this happens to.

System I'm running Avast! on:

Athlon 64 3800+
1 gig PC 3200 RAM
Windows XP SP2
BFG Nvidia Geforce 7800GTX OC card
Sygate Firewall.

Note: the lan icon and firewall icon appear in the system tray but I can't run anything when the hang happens (upon boot up)

I think you got same problem as me...Thus you mean the computer slow after the login waiting for the LAN to be load in the tray icon????

Please, post the last 100-150 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log

Try opening avast settings, Troubleshooting page, and checking the "Delay loading of avast services" box.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving's not for you.

Here's a copy of the 100 lines as requested, and I have now checked the delay loading services box as asked. Turning on updates now will see what happens and thanks for the help guys!

I already do what u have suggest by delay the loading of avast...
But unfortunately the loading delay still happen...
It usually happen after avast update done...
The delay are cause of late loading of LAN and wireless tray icon....
