I recommended Avast etc to a friend

I recommended Avast and this company to a friend, the word was it slowed her computer to a snails pace and basically "f@#$'ed" it up. Did I lead her wrong? This program has saved my computers butt a few times. Thats why I recommended it. I just wanted to know what you guys think.

I think something else is going on. Avast does not slow down a system noticebly.

Did she already removed all malware from the system? (see the page in my signature)

Beavis, although it's not the most important, but language here it's a little bit different.
Besides this, you friend's problem could have a lot of reasons. We can only help (or judge) if you post more: operational system, if she had an antivirus before installing avast, firewall, etc.

If you want to know what I think, well, does she know what she does?

Avast is an excellent program.  Your friend apparently had something going on before Avast was installed.  A slow running computer usually indicates a "supply" of malware/spyware.

Have your friend download and install Adaware by Lavasoft (www.lavasoft.de).  I would also recommend she download and install A2 Trojan scanner (www.emsisoft.com/en/)  Both are freeware and do an excellent job of detecting and removing junk that slows the putter down.

As for the language....
Well, we are sensitive about that here.  You are most welcome, but try to be a bit more patient.  We are glad to help you and your friend in any way possible to fix up her putter.

The information requested by Technical and Eddy would be most helpful.
