I'd recommend trying out the latest pre-release build: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=73110.0

Thanks

Just to add to the list - Have run Avast free version for several years going through all of the upgrades along the way - no problem. Upgraded to v6.0.1000 per the Update Notice within Avast while manually updating within the interface. Everythng seemed to be fine, but then get BSOD and have to hard boot. Problem keeps occuring and so ended up here. Dell P4, XP-Pro (all updates and Service Packs), Windows Firewall Off (its a pain), No other AV Software (had paid Norton for years and years, latest Internet Security Pack was such a system hog and was getting so expensive that I looked elsewhere). Will look for the previous version of Avast, unintall 6, install previous until they fix 6.

Look here:

http://www.filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/
Not sure which version you need, but down the right-hand side they list prior versions.  I'm using 5.0.677 still and it works fine on my sys (see sig line below for particulars).

Hope this helps.

@ 01012k7,

Go to the Avast License Center: http://www.avast.com/license-center > "Resend Purchased License" and ask to convert your 4.0 license to a 5.0 / 6.0 license.

Make sure you use the same email as you used to register for the 4.0 license.

Should you need to contact Avast, http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php?loadStyles, use the drop down menu.  Let us know if you have any additional questions.  Thank you.

1.  How did you convert your 4.0 license to a 6.0 license?  By the link I gave you in my post?  If not, try it.
2. Sending a support ticket is not the way to get your license fixed.  You need to use the link I gave you and go to the License Center.
3. If you want to uninstall, see below.  Shutting services down will not uninstall it.

How to uninstall and do a clean install of Avast:
1. Save a copy of Avast and save it to your HDD.
2. Download the Avast Uninstall Utility http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear6.exe and save it to your HDD.
3. Disconnect from the Internet at this time.
4. Go to Control Panel and uninstall Avast through Add/Remove Programs if possible and reboot.
5. If Step 4 fails, boot into Safe Mode (hit F8 repeatedly) and run the Avast Uninstall Tool.  Uninstall ALL previous versions and products you had on this machine at this time.
6. Reboot.
7. Install the newest version of Avast and reboot.
8. Get Internet access and register your copy or add the license key for Free, Pro, or AIS.
9. Update the Avast definitions.

When you got to step 3, it should give you this link http://www.avast.com/resend-license-paid.php.  Did you complete it to resend you the paid license online?  BTW, the license for version 5 is the same as v.6.

Your other option is to contact Avast with the link I gave you in my prior post: http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php?loadStyles, use the drop down menu.

You did this while online?
Did you use the SAME email address you used when you registered your 4.0 product?
Did you check your spam folder in your email?
If yes to all of the above, did you contact Avast with the link I provided in my prior post?

I have contacted Avast internally for you.  Please let me know if they contact you directly via email.  I will see if they contact you here in the thread.  It appears that you did everything correctly, so we need to hear back from Avast.  Thank you for your patience.
