Left click the orange ball. The GUI (graphic user interface) will open.

On the tabs to the left, select "scan computer" and "scan now". Select the scan you want to run. (I'd suggest a quick scan, first off.) Press the "start" button, near the right side of the interface.

Any problems with this, please post back. Include details of your operating system and any previous antivirus or other security software installed.

Tarq57   If it's in the tray you need to right click. Or double click the avast icon. Or right click the avast icon.

With my installation, on my XP computer, and my wife's W7 computer, a left click will do it.

(I do have the mouse set to single-click to open files. That might have something to do with it. I'd appreciate a test and confirmation.)

The GUI opens with a single left click. Without any mouse settings.
At least this is and was the behavior on a total 7 machines using WinXP, Win 7 32 bit and Win 7 64 bit I have already set up with Avast 6.
This was the way it always behaved since Avast 5 came out.

Thanks, Zyndstoff.

A right click on the tray icon brings up a context-style menu, with various options, including to open the GUI.
