Boot Scan

I was wondering it there was any way (or is it possible) I can make avast! scan upon booting, just like when I restarted my pc after installation of the program? Thanks!

Sure - in the Simple User Interface, just go to the menu and select "Schedule Boot-Time Scan". From the Enhanced User Interface, select the Scheduler toolbar and you'll see the icon "Schedule boot-time scan" (the rightmost one).

Call me daft but i dont see any option to have avast4 home scan on boot, I do see a scan memory on program start. ? er is that the same thing Must not be becouse you mention a scheduler.

No, it's really not the same thing.
To enable/disable scanning memory on avast! startup, you have to go to the main menu, select Settings and then you can change the option (on the "Common" page).
The boot-time scan, however, is right in the main menu (Schedule Boot-Time Scan), not in the Settings.

I still dont see this setting
Gee wouldnt it be a default anyway
Could you explain it another way (for the hard of hearing :) )

OK. First, I hope you have Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 (i.e. not 95, 98 or ME - the boot-time scan is not available there). Since you said you had a boottime scan right after the installation, it should be true.

Start the Simple User Interface (since you have Home version, you don't have the Enhanced User Interface anyway).
Click the top-left corner of the window, to bring up the menu.
The menu should have to following items:

Start Scan
---
Settings...
Select Skin...
---
Status Information...
Last Scan Result...
View Scan Reports...
----
avast! iNews...
Virus Database...
Schedule Boot-Time Scan...
Virus Chest
Log Viewer
Updating
---
Switch to Enhanced User Interface
---
Introductory Help
Help
About avast!...
Exit

OK thankyou I see it now and its grayed out , this is window me
so thats normal for avast.  I thought all av prgrams scaned memory
every time the pc was started and anytime something supisious is detected.

Ah, my fault, I didn't notice there are two posters in fact.  :)

Maybe some clarification: boot-time scan is not scanning of memory (scanning of memory can be performed on any Windows platform). Boot-time scan is a special scan performed before Windows fully start (before they even switch to graphical mode). It's performed using special API functions, available only on NT platform. The advantage is that the scan if performed before any virus have a change to get started, i.e. it's guaranteed that no virus is active in memory.
