My advice would be to uninstall Defender and install MBAM. It's much better! I found regardless of what threats you have on your pc Defender will always just give a clean scan result. Waste of time.
You can not un-install Windows Defender on Vista nor Windows 7.

Edit: Oh, and I currently believe that so far, WD hasn't found anything worth removing, so Avast is more than enough protection.  Why waste CPU and memory when something else can find the same thing?

+1 :)

Why do you bother to post on Vista and Windows 7 issues when you do not have either of them. ???

Kenny, I already told you some time ago, that I have a couple of systems.
It's not my fault, that you can't remember. ;)
So, if your question is, if WD should be used on Vista/W7 - my answer is the same: NO

Then why don't you indicate that you have Vista/W7 in your signature. ???

I can see that happening.  I can also see it being a false positive though. I guess it can't hurt to run both if you have the resources though.  Those old dogs at my one location just couldn't hack it though, and I removed the policy this morning.

Hopefully all of my other security layers will prevent anything from happening to them, and before Windows Defender was installed, everything seemed just fine.

I have. You have to stop the services before doing so. Check link...

Do you have a screenshot of your control panel ? the link mention's nothing about uninstalling defender only disabling.
As i mentioned earlyer defender cannot be uninstalled from vista or win 7 just like the windows firewall also cannot be uninstalled so i believe that you are confusing uninstall with disable as in control panel you will still have defender and also in your program files, what was the process you followed to make you think you had uninstalled defender ?

yeah, it's built-in to vista/7 sort of like IE.  You can disable it many ways though.
