Email Takeover
« on: September 18, 2004, 03:59:26 AM »
My email settings were hijacked and the server settings were changed to 127.0.0.1.  I changed them back, but what do I do to clean my computer if this was caused by a virus?

That wasn't a virus. It was avast! so that it could protect your e-mail. Now that you've changed it, your e-mail is no longer being scanned.

Thanks for your response.  When it was set to 127.0.0.1, I did not receive my email messages.  After I changed it back, I got today's messaages, but I did not receive my missing messages from the previous 4 days.

If your settings right now are the default settings given to you by your ISP, then please do the following:
1. Shut down OE
2. Go to start> Programs> avast! Antivirus> Mail Protection Wizzard
Run the mail protection wizzard then reboot and your e-mail protection should be set up.
I have no answer as to what happened to your missing e-mail.  Did you get any error messages?

Tried what Bob posted...
You should have C:\...\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe running in your computer (it's the email scanner). You could check clicking Ctrl+alt+del

After I changed it back, I got today's messaages, but I did not receive my missing messages from the previous 4 days.

Well, if avast could not scan the messages, of course, avast could never 'delete' them.
It should be a problem of your ISP or even your email client.
avast! does not have a spam module and only delete infected messages if you said so (the automatically deletion is only available on Professional version).
