Welcome to the forum.
Can you tell us which version of avast you're using, What anti virus program did you use before
and how did you remove it ???
See if these instructions help you fix the problem:
3rd party: Uninstalling third-party antivirus software (Removing your Current AV)
https://support.avast.com/index.php?languageid=1&group=eng&_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=574

The removal tool for avast! Antivirus (should you also need it) : http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear6.exe

If you didn't totally remove your old AV before installing avast!, then you'll need to 1st remove the remainder of the old AV, reboot,
remove avast! using the add/remove function, reboot, remove the remainder of avast using the removal too, again reboot.
Now re-install avast!6.
If you still have a problem or don't understand any of the printed instructions, just come back and ask.

Thank you.

Current version 6.0.1
Virus def 110314-1

Um, i have had avast for over a year now and had no problems... until now.
I didn't install anything new.
Um, BSOD for the last few days.

Should I remove avast?  Reinstall or DL something new?

Thank you!

I would suggest that you uninstall avast! totally and then do a clean install using the following instructions:

1. download the latest version of the avast!6 installer from http://www.avast.com/index
2. download the avast!6 removal tool mentioned in my previous post
3. Use the add/remove function to remove avast! - reboot
4. use the removal tool to remove the rest of avast! - reboot
5. install the latest version of avast! 6 which you downloaded in step 1
6. Reboot one more time. When the system comes back up, you should have a working copy of avast!6
on your system and no more BSOD.
Let me know how things went and good luck. :)

Thank you so much for quick reply!  :)

I will do this now and keep you posted.

What would be a good registry cleaner to use, to clean up old unused files.  I use to use CCleaner.

My advise when I do the seminar is to use Ccleaner and not to change any settings.
Cleaning the registry only saves milliseconds but removing the wrong key can result in your
system not booting.
My advice is simple. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Okay, So i reinstalled like you said and so far so good... but, when I removed avast from my system it booted in seconds!  It was so fast that I was stunned.  When I reinstalled avast... it is very slow and sluggish again.  Everything seems to be working slower now.  I am going to try the CCleaner.

Any ideas I am all ears and thank you for all the help!  ;D

Hi and thanks so much for the help!

I am smiling at your last words... I decided it's all over for poor Vista!  I am installing windows 7 tomorrow!  ;D  I just couldn't believe you had posted my exact thoughts!!!  :D  Too Funny!

I am a bit worried though.  I have a dell M1730 and I know there is a certain order things have to go, and I don't know much about the drivers either.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!!  I am backing up all my files, music and pics now.  I am sick of Vista!

Thank you again.  ;D
