It's much better to learn what's new then trying to make something old out of something new.  :)
That way you do not become extinct like the dinosaurs and the Dodo bird.  ;)

If you're in doubt, always use "Public" profile.

Can this be later changed to "home profile" and vice versa? What exactly do I gain/lose with enabling the public profile over the home profile?

David, I only now saw your screenshot and am able to disable the autosandboxing in Avast. Before I didn't log in and didn't see the picture. Thank you!

And about the XP vs 7 - I find the new Windows Explorer limited in functionality compared to the XP one (which wasn't perfect but was better than the 7 one, for me at least), same goes for the start menu. I'm happy with the Classic Shell addon.

Do you guys have any idea what could be wrong with my touchpad? It worked excellent before I formatted the HDD and made a fresh install of Windows 7. I tried everything, installing drivers, uninstalling, changing them, enabling, disabling, changing power settings etc. - but with no success. Today I will format my HDD again and make a fresh install of the system but I have a feeling that the touchpad won't work. And it's 99% not a hardware problem. Do you know what else could I try?

Thank you!

Well, file/printer sharing, network browsing and such.

NFC. Try the latest drivers directly from Synaptic: http://www.synaptics.com/support/drivers

Also, I recall there was some issue w/ Sandboxie and Synaptics, presumably fixed but search their forums.

Yes.

Help files have more info. But, generally, a restricted network access policy is applied.

Which feature do you miss?

What feature do I miss? Right now it happened to me the second time - I incidentally deleted the whole folder of my more than one hour of work in the new (Windows 7) Windows Explorer! And I always have a disabled recycle bin. But I have enabled it right now. I don't want to, never needed it before in XP or 98 or 95, but I have to. I don't really know how this happens, I think that it marks files & folders in a different way than the XP Windows Explorer. I've noticed also that if I click on a file with a right mouse button that doesn't always mean that this file is marked (chosen). I don't know if that's a Windows 7 bug or what. I'm disappointed over the new Windows Explorer, I'm using the recycle bin from now on, but I don't like it that way. Now I'll have to delete everything twice just because of that Windows Explorer bug or whatever it is.

I have to cool down now and do all the work again... Thanx for readin'!

Anyone else had the same problem with deleting files in W7 Explorer?

A little misunderstanding... I was talking about Windows 7 (built-in) Firewall/Network settings. I have a free version of Avast! so I don't have the Avast! Firewall. Thank you anyway.

By the way, how can I harden the W7 Firewall security? By default all the outbound traffic is allowed, that's weird isn't it? Or should it be left like that?

I see. So do you think I should create some outbound rules or just leave it like it is (without the outbound protection)?

I have another question (I'm sorry, but I really am a little lost in Windows 7): do you know of any good program that I could use instead of the Windows 7 search tool? Cheap or free program, as small as possible, to search for files and folders with all kinds of filters (file type, date etc.). Thank you.

One of the nicest improvements in windows 7 is the search tool by the start button.
I use it more than shortcut keys.
What problems are you having with it ???
