Seems lately, Avast always tries to connect to IP addresses that belong to servers where lots of malware comes from.  LeaseWeb for example.

I've noticed it getting worse over time.

If you pay for a subscription, do the updates come from more reputable sources?

Maybe those with free version get updates from somewhat hokey sources and those with paid version get clean, reliable updates?
If so, I'll go ahead an pay for a copy I suppose.  I need reliable virus protection.  You get what you pay for?

My computers seem to get hijacked when I install avast free nowdays.

Anyone else notice this?

What makes you think it's the updates?
avast! WebShield, for example, acts as a HTTP proxy - i.e. it connects wherever your browser connects.

Regarding the updates, there's no difference between the free and paid versions. But there are certainly no "unreliable", "unreputable" or "unclean" sources of the updates.
