I strongly suspect they're mainly trying to resurrect their fallen image.
What did they do wrong for get this image falling?

Hi Tech

In a nutshell, they were accused of paying bribes and creating viruses to be "detected" by Rising AV.
Many reports are no longer current but here are a few links that still work.

Why would you want to promote a competing product  ::)
Rising Antivirus 2011
Rising Firewall 2011
Rising Internet Security 2011

I can't even see why you are posting this advert for another Av on the official avast support forums, who are paying for the provision of this forum.

Hang on a minute!
Promoting a competing product?
An advert for another AV?

Show me where I have done this. I too will be wondering why.

Had I accidentally posted in the wrong subcategory? No. Says "General Topics".

Is the move by a once-disgraced vendor to now offer AV, FW & IS for free likely to be of general interest to avast! users? I had thought so. :-\

Time for holiday perhaps....

@ the above poster >>> don't get me started about Iran, that's not the right place. I've been a regular twitter poster during the events in 2009, read tens and tens of articles, communicated with Iranian protesters, saw on videos how your regime treated its own people there, shooting them from the roofs during demos, beating them to death etc... okay, so just keep it quiet, unless you got something to say ::)...not mentioning the corruption at government level with the oil thing.

To make things clear, are you supporting Ahmadinejad? you don't need to answer ::) again keep it quiet or I'll flood this thread with the most graphics stuff that you can imagine, and it's not just Neda, if you see what I mean, you'd be delighted. The worse since Nazi Germany during WWII has been going on in your country since 1979, alright? 8) ;D

p.s. I'm not political at all to support either government or any anti-gov movement etc...

I believe every more comment about this will be off-topic and not something for avast forum, if you want you can PM, email or other forums ;)

The Chinese are building a stealth fighter, the 'J-20' after stealing parts from a crashed U.S. Air Force F-117 stealth fighter-bomber in Serbia on March 27, 1999

The J-20  ;D

Thats how lame they are

But still I really wonder about the recently crashed plane in Libya, maybe the Chinese already have sent spies for scavenging the parts from it. LOL

The Chinese are coming :P

Companies like Nokia and Siemens should be blamed for selling equipments to Iran. A part of Europe is shouting for privacy when another part is just destroying it.

I would suggest closing down/locking this topic.

Not at all useful for avast and its users.

The mere act of creating the topic about it is promotion (a.k.a. advertising a competing product) as it gives it the oxygen of publicity. These forums are very well tracked by the various search engines and this could also inadvertently improve its ranking.

Had I accidentally posted in the wrong subcategory? No. Says "General Topics".

In case you hadn't bothered to read the General forum description "anything and everything about this board" even with the amount of latitude given by the moderators, since the OT forum was closed.

Since avast pay for these forums promoting competitive products is a bit of a slap in the face.

Time for holiday perhaps....

Why would it be of general interest to avast users who are generally happy with avast, sorry but I don't agree it is of interest, even less so given their previous track record. There are many AV companies out there all vying for a bigger slice of the market share and the official avast forums isn't where they should be promoted.

Perhaps your right time to take a holiday, I hope you enjoy your holiday.

Hi David
My eyes have well and truly been opened here in the last couple of days.

I do understand your point. It's just that prior to starting this thread I had not considered that anxiety in regard to the mention of a competitor's product possibly providing them with any "oxygen of publicity" should be taken seriously as an impediment to doing so.
As you say, Avast do operate this forum and I will certainly respect any request or direction from the company itself to stop us mentioning the names of competitors or their products here in future.

Many times have I read the description "anything and everything about this board" and on each occasion understood it to be prescriptive of a freedom from inhibition, dare I say, a latitude ;) not to be found or expected on the specifically titled boards. (A latitude that appears to extend even to xenophobic diatribe on occasions, though not from you I hasten to add.)

Cheers,
Vlad
