I have the same problem
Can`t use the web browser al all, while avast web protection is running.

No, you don't have the same problem.

Surfing the internet is fine, it's just our home network that the firewall will not allow.

Go start a new thread, specificating your OS, exact avast! version and other security software you had/still have installed there.

Thew only way i found is to disable completly the web protection. 

This problem is in no way related...!!

The problem is solved.
It was caused by updating from version 5 to version 6 via the internet.

Downloading version 6 then reinstalling Avast cured the problem.

Hope this help others that experience problems such as this.
