Christ. It is a bootable CD. You do not need 64bit support.   ::)

Which point am I missing? It will work perfectly fine on x86 and x64. And yeah, you can make it USB compatible pretty easily, exactly the same way as any bootable ISO.

So you want it for free. Well, it's Avast's  business decision to not provide it for free. Live with it. If you "repair infected pc's for a living" then $10 is a very reasonable price. You don't do your job free either, after all.

This debate goes nowhere. As with any other software: if you don't want to pay for the product, use the free alternatives.

P.S. Pretty likely some of the products you listed are free for personal, non-commercial use only. :P

If all those companies mentioned can do it then so can Avast. Please stop being such an Avast Fanboy. Avast is a great av but they need to look into this.

I am not an Avast fanboy. Anyway, they are already providing a great product for free, if you need a bootable CD (which most people don't) then - as already said - nothing stops you from using the free alternatives if you don't want to pay. Stop blaming them they want to earn some money.  ::)

They can. But, should they do it? They've chosen to release a paid version.
By the way, there are a lot of other tools in the avast Rescue CD (registry cleaner, file cleaner, etc.) that made they chose this way.
You have 3rd party options. We're not fanboys. Go for them :)

I hope that I am right, but as I remember Ondrej told us at the Evangelist meeting in Prague that the Avast! rescue CD is Windows 7 based, so they have to pay a licence fee to Microsoft. That's why it is not for free.

And thats my exact point. I gave a list of companies which offer this feature for free. Why cant Avast? Heck even AVG Free offers AVG Rescue. Even people who dont have Kaspersky can use the Kaspersky Rescue CD. The Norton Bootable Recovery needs a valid license but if you know someone you can just use there's.
