Integration with PuTTY secure connection?
« on: September 22, 2004, 10:26:30 AM »
I guess I regard myself as an intermediate experienced user of Avast! with reasonable understanding of its configuration, including the port redirection tricks involved in daisy-chaining Avast!-Spamihilator-OutlookExpress.

This one I cannot resolve.
I am attempting to configure Avast! to also work in combination with the PuTTY secure connection with the office mail server.

So, the daisy-chain should be as follows:
IMAP-Server - PuTTY - Avast! - OE

Details:
IMAP server uses ports 25 and 143
PuTTY redirects these ports to localhost:26 and localhost:144

If I setup my e-mail account on Outlook Express to use localhost:26 and localhost:144 as outgoing SMTP and incoming IMAP respectively, then the e-mail connection works, but Avast is not yet included in the chain.

I have tried using the Mail Protection Wizard in both automatic and manual mode, but nothing happens.
The mail-account settings are not changed and Avast! appears to be not functioning during e-mail download (no animated icon).

What settings do I need to make to get Avast! in between PuTTY and OE?

Try the updated wizard: http://www2.asw.cz/~peterka/4.1.418/ashPopWz_2.exe
(Save it to Avast4 folder and start from there.)

Perfect!
That did the trick.

Avast! is now nicely in between my PuTTY SSL server and OE
Changes it made in the OE mail-account:
- IMAP server: 127.0.0.1
- SMTP server: 127.0.0.1
- account name: my-login-name#localhost:144
- SMTP port: 25
- IMAP port: 143

I guess somewhere in Avast.ini a connection is made between OE port 25 and the PuTTY port 26.

I performed test for both incoming and outgoing mails by inserting the Avast notification and all works fine.

Thanks Vojtech,

Stephan
