How can I disable Web Rep pop up.
« on: March 25, 2011, 06:48:02 PM »
I like Web Rep. I used to use Web of Trust. I'd like to disable the mouse over popup for Web Rep that you get in Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc. search results. It's very annoying.

Could you add that "disable pop up" feature? Maybe even make a key and mouse over combo for the popup?

I'm using Firefox 4 with NoScript extension.  Unless I allow JavaScript  on Google.com, etc., the WebRep pop-ups don't appear.

The javascript has to be allowed for avast.com, not google.com as has been said the webrep doesn't set a cookie for every site that you visit.

Even with cookies disabled for google.co.uk, my default the WebRep pop-up still works in avast 6.0.1044 and Firefox 4.0, see image.

JavaScript and cookies is allowed for avast.com.  The pop-up on the search results pages still doesn't show unless you allow JavaScript on the results page.

Try not allowing JavaScript for anything Google and then do a Google seach.  Do you still get the individual pop-ups for the urls on the results page?

Well my image says differently as cookies weren't allowed and the image shows the webrep pop-up displayed in the results list when I hover over one of the icons ???

Forget about the cookies.  They aren't what affects the URL pop-ups on the Search results pages.  It's JavaScript.

OK.
Well I don't block javascript (NoScript) for google.com or google.co.uk, why would I.

I use requestpolicy add-on to block cross site scripting (running scripts for third party sites), limiting what other scripts might run.

Interestingly if javascript is disabled or blocked for google.co.uk the WOT pop-up still works in the results.

Thanks for the suggestion. I want javascript on my search results page.

I've removed Web Rep and I have reinstalled Web of Trust. It's highly configurable. When Avast makes Web Rep as configurable and friendly as  Web of Trust I will enable it.

Not really needed, they work together just fine. Whatever fits your needs though.

If you want JavaScript on your search page, WebRep works as advertised.  The URL pop-up will appear.

I use RequestPolicy in a couple of Firefox profiles which I use for special purposes, like banking and other sensitive uses.  Those profiles are in other windows limited user accounts separate from my surfing accounts.  The one Admin account is not used for surfing at all.

I block Google to stay away from Google Analytics. ;)

Well I wouldn't have removed WebRep, as you can see from my image they both work together (you just have to have javascript enabled for your search domain as mentioned). That way you can contribute to building the webrep database.

I find it easier just to block Google Analytics in NoScript and Adblock Plus.
