Remote Install of Avast Pro (LAN Network)
« on: September 23, 2004, 10:26:38 AM »
Coudn't find any help topic, neither any forum topic about it... I just found that the main Avast menu had some option called (sorry for the translation  i have the french version):
"File -> Create Silent Install"

I just tried it out, thinking it was a way of installing Avast on my network computers in a remote way... is that right  ??? ? I"m not sure to do it the right way, could anyone tell me more about it ??

This feature will create two files:
Admin.ini and Tasks.xml
into a folder of your choice.
When you run the setup.exe (the downloaded file) you should add this two files into the same directory of the setup file.
The files contain some configurations and the behavior of an automated installation (boot, installation folder, etc.)  ;)

Can't you place it in a directory that's shared amongst all the computers?
I mean, how did you get the setup file itself onto the computers? Running a web browser and downloading it manually on each computer separatelly?

Did you buy all these licenses?  ;D
Besides what Igor says, you can burn a CD with the setup and that files if this is simple...  8)

Downloading 70 times the same file ??? Well, I'm not THAT stupid  ;D !

Yes, the .exe is on a shared directory... but I still have to log on each computer with an administrator account, install the stuff, configure the proxy for the automatic updates etc... that's why I just wondered if there was a way to do it for all the PC set from my own office... but I'm not really faithfull about that anyway... so I have a SECOND question : is there (or will there be) a way for distibuting the virus databases or program updates from a local server (that would update itself from the net) ???

Well, I thought that the Network version is for this kind of stuffs... but I'm not sure all your computers are in a LAN.

Of course, I was trying to help and not souspicious about anything.
Of course, you does not need to download the setup file more than once.

Why not get/use the server edition?

We have 2 servers editions licences, one for the W2000 Domain Controller and one for a RDP W2003 server...
And we have 70 Pro editions licences, for the 70 w2000 or Xp clients computers... we shouldn't have done it that way ??

I am not sure about the licenses, but there is the ADNM for network editions. (INFO)

It still is beta, but should work for you. (Beta pages)
