Error in installation
« on: March 25, 2011, 09:45:41 AM »
Hi.
I just bought and installed avast! Internet Security one week ago. It seemed working very good on my very new laptop, but yesterday an error message appeared saying something like avast couldn't find the language...I don't remember precisely, but it was a short message (one line, few words) mentioning the language.
I tried to restart my computer, but the message still appeared. Therefore I tried to reinstall avast, but now when having finnished the installation, I am told that there were an error in the installation.
When scrolling through the installation-log these lines are mentioned as errors:

25.03.2011 07:22:20 registry: Error deleting registry: aswFsBlk Instance (0x00000005)
25.03.2011 07:22:20 registry: Error deleting registry: Instances (0x00000005)

The first of these lines is repeated a hundreds of times while the second is also repeated a couple of times in between all these error-lines.

Now it doesn't seem that avast works on my laptop anymore...at least there is no icon in the lower right Windows panel and the usual Windows 7 gadget, in the right side of the desktop, when having installed avast doesen't appear neighter.
Is anyone familiar with such a problem?

Try removing avast with the uninstall tool and do a new install

Did your computer come with a preinstalled AV ?
have removed any previous used AV before installing avast ?
did you use a removal tool to remove all leftovers ?

You can try an Avast Repair:
- Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Avast Antivirus.
- Scroll down and choose Repair function in the pop-up window.
- Reboot.

If this does not work, which it may not given the registry errors, you probably need to do an Avast uninstall and clean install:

1. Save a copy of Avast and save it to your HDD:
http://www.avast.com/download-software – all versions
2. Download the Avast Uninstall Utility http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear6.exe and save it to your HDD.
3. Disconnect from the Internet at this time.
4. Go to Control Panel and uninstall Avast through Add/Remove Programs if possible and reboot.
5. If Step 4 fails, boot into Safe Mode (hit F8 repeatedly) and run the Avast Uninstall Tool.
6. Reboot.
7. Install the newest version of Avast and reboot.
8. Get Internet access and register your copy or add the license key for AIS.
9. Update the Avast definitions.

Let us know if this fixes your problem.  If not, let us know what other security software you have on this machine and information (OS, etc.).  Thank you.

The machine was bought with a trial on TrendMicro Internet Security 2011 Titanium, but I already got that uninstalled.
Your tips helped me for a while, but then my wireless connection went out. The error tracking said is was the drivers, that didn't work. I tried to reinstall the drivers, but it didn't help, so I did a system recovery and then the avast error came back...I think

Did you do the Avast uninstall / clean install?

If you still get an error after you had already done this already, then try any of these to uninstall your previous security software again since most likely remnants were left behind (reboot after uninstalling):

If you did not do the uninstall / clean install already, run the uninstaller for Trend first, reboot, then do the Avast uninstall/clean install.
