D+ is what makes Comodo very strong and one of the top firewall along with Online Armor. Just go over to Matousec.com and see for yourself.
Gizmo criticizes the Matousec's tests. It's a technical reading, but seems fair (http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/matousec-personal-firewall-tests-analyzed.htm).
Others point to an interest conflict on Matousec's tests, reducing their independence (?) (http://smokeys.wordpress.com/2008/04/20/matousecs-firewall-challenge-wrinkle-conflict-of-interests/).

Leak tests are popular mainly because they are very easy to perform: you simply run a program, and it tells you if it passed or failed the test. However, life is not that simple, unfortunately.

The primary goal of a firewall is to keep hackers out of your system, that is, prevent inbound attacks in the first place. It's astonishing that many firewaller "testers" only focus on outbound protection, completely ignoring the inbound part (which is absolutely vital). It's like they assumed it worked flawlessly in case of all the products, which, unfortunately, doesn't seem to be the case, really.

Next, outbound protection is of course also important, but so called leak tests are not everything. There's a myriad of other things that a decent firewall should do, and which are usually not assesed by these tests. All I'm saying is that testing a firewall is a very complex task and focusing on leak tests is a gross (and inappropriate) simplification.

XP users can disable Avast BB since its still needs to mature and D+ is stronger all day long.
Hmmm... I won't disable it.

Ok explain this to me then. With Windows 7 Firewall I get a score of 210/340 on the CLT test. With ZA Free I get a 210/340. So how is using a 3rd party firewall better? Because it annoys me with 30 million pop ups?

Did you read the comments about leak tests? Do you really think Matousec is independent?

Why did you leave them?
Dieselman, why did you leave Comodo (products and forum)?

Why did I leave......................Well that was along time ago but its not the product. Its the Comodo fanboys with there leader Meilh. Comodo is the most unprofessional company around. Several mods left for OA. There are tons and tons of articles about them. I can link you to them but getting way off topic. Comodo refuses to fix the bugs in there software. They refuse to make CIS user friendly. I can go on and on and on. One of my buddies Gak left Comodo over this drama.

Chet, it would be helpful if you would cool things a bit here and try to be more collegial.  The people here are not morons, and generally have a lot to offer-even if sometimes it is obvious or not quite correct observations, like everywhere else in the world.  Avast! has over 150M users, a much larger scale than most, and in spite of a few excursions gets most of it done via the forum.  I have been a user for about 6 years and find it among the best still for actually getting things done, having other users chase things down, generally trying to give at least semi-professional help and executing a lot of difficult cooperative tasks.  It is not a belligerent youth corps like some you may have seen.  So forget the dreaded Melih (I still dread him too  ;) ) and any bad thoughts from Remove Malware (the youngest group I have ever seen) and join in without quite so much rancor.  Avast! forum is not a fanboy club selling "Avast! or nothing"; help is freely given for things like OA, Private Firewall, even Comodo since many users prefer a HIPS to behavior blockers because they understand them better.  Avast! (Vlk et al) are trying to build up the silent firewall because of the problems and high mistake potential of HIPS.  But it is not an easy problem.  If things don't work quite right, you can at least blame it on Avast! instead of Avast! blaming it on you like with a HIPS.
Ed.

The problem is the fact you don't know how to help. It looks like you're scolding the guys you're helping.

Time to get out of this thread.
Sorry Dieselman, I was just asking trying to know your opinion about Comodo and its forum.
It's clear for me now.
I quit.

I offer a summary of this thread. I am not trying to take sides, just posting what I saw:

Will Avast! have HIPS? -->
Is HIPS essential to PC security? -->
Can't use BB and HIPS -->
Diesel says yes, others say no -->
A slightly snarky comment from Logos (post #25) and craigb (post #29) -->
Firzen agrees with Diesel on using BB and HIPS -->
HIPS vs. BB -->
mag discusses disabling HIPS because of Avast! BS -->
Diesel says use a fw without HIPS -->
Debate between Logos and Diesel on effectiveness of fw without HIPS -->
Questions about Diesel on other forums, (reply #81 is when it starts going downhill) -->
Diesel calls Logos moron, says people are thick -->
More talk about Diesel on other forums -->
bri makes a vitriolic comment, and from there it's mainly Diesel, Derry, and bri arguing.

As to who cast the first stone, it's up to you.

Good night.
