update connections page
« on: September 25, 2004, 05:20:26 PM »
In the avast help screen I get :
"Update (Connections)" Page

Here you can specify how your computer is connected to the Internet. These settings improve the way avast! checks for new updates and make the process of automatic updates more reliable.

Where would I find this page?

When I try to update I get:
Information about current update:
Last encountered error: Server download4.avast.com (unknown:80) is down

Update works fine here (just checked). Make sure your firewall is not blocking Avast. Also check Avast's log file for errors. It may tell more about what is going wrong.

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to forum. I'm also getting the error msg malcb's receiving. I'm running WinME w/Outpost Firewall Pro 2.1 & AdAware 6. Recently I'm having to disable Outpost to use internet.

My main question is Eddy (or anyone that may be able to help) you mention checking AVAST log file for errors - I found: An error has occurred while attempting to update...& Function setifaceUpdatePackages () has failed. R... Do I need to reinstall AVAST? Or reconfigure it or Outpost? Please explain solution in detail if it's not too much trouble. I never had this problem before w/ZA free edition.

Thankyou

PS. Thankyou AVAST this is the best anti-virus anywhere. ;)

If you disable Outpost, can you update?
It seems a firewall trouble...

Yes, Technical (Thankyou for your help) I can update once I disable Outpost. In fact lately I have to disable Outpost to view sites on the internet period.  ::) So, you think it's the firewall settings? Do you think I should reinstall it or maybe try another firewall? ???

I do not only think, I'm sure  8)
Outpost is a very good firewall. I suggest you open it, go to Options > Applications.
Remove all items and start using your firewall again.
Let avast connect when you manually ask for an update...  ;)

Thankyou Technical

I did as you suggested (removed all applications from OP options) things seem to be working fine so far.
