Main storage problem can be solved changing the method of storage.
Download 'Control' in my signature and use the propter option.
Or, just open avast4.ini file (into data folder) and change the word ODBC for XML.

Or, at last, see 'Settings' on my signature.
The best things in life are free.

That is all pretty much greek to me, i am not quite sure that your reply is translated properly.
Why would this suddenly change when program has been running properly all of this time? Program is running on windows xp pro.
Please provide step by step instruction to resolve if possible.

Aloha,Keith

kamaina,

Technical's reply was translated properly, but I will guide you through the instructions.
As for why it changed now....not really sure.  If the "fix" works, then I would not worry about it.  Sometimes, programs "adapt" and change without warning.

1.  Rigth click on My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
2.  Then click on Explore
3.  In the left panel, find your hard drive and click the + sign to open the drop down.
4.  Find Programs and click the + sign next to it to open its' drop down.
5.  Locate the Alwil folder and again click the + sign next to Alwil, and then the + next to Avast.
6.  Highlight the Data Folder.  In the right panel you will now see a listing of the folders within Data.
7.  Locate Avast.ini and open it by double left click.
8.  Look down the lines until you find [Common].  Under this heading, change the entry ODBC to XML.

Exit the Mr Computer dialog box.

Your done.  Try Avast again and let me know what happens.

Good luck.

aloha,
Have navigated to the data file but it does not seem contain the file avast.ini . I looked in the file named avast4 configuration settings and found the common line changed to XML and it worked! Mahalo Nui Loa (thank you in Hawaiian) for your Help.

Keith,

Great!  You have learned a lesson here.....
Sometimes one system categorizes things differently such as the COMMON header.

I still think that you have the Avast.ini file somewhere, but your system may have saved it under Avast Config for some reason.

Anyway, glad to have helped you.
Stop by any time

and.....

Aloha to you as well.
