Unable to apply "IGNORE"

After a scan i found 2 files that are reported, i know that they are not virus, and i want to chose ignore
from the drop down list, but avast doesnt let me hit "APPLY" at the bottom when i do that. It only allows
the operations i DONT want.

This is just about as annoying as the avira features concerning the same problem of ignoring certain results.

also upload the file(s) to www.virustotal.com and test with 43 malware scanners
when you have the result, copy the URL in the address bar and post it here so we can see the scan result

If there are no other files in the list on which you selected some real action to be done, i.e. if there are only those 2 files you want to ignore... it doesn't make sense to press the "Apply" button (as it would do... nothing).
So just click the "Close" button.

Why a screenshot. It finds 2 files which are .exe (and i absolutely know what they contain) and use certain crypt routines inside so they are reported as viruses. This is a typical problem of all scanners. I dont have to upload them
to virustotal to know that there will be alerts...cause of course they will be flagged as viruses.

I chose in the drop down to the right "IGNORE" which i can chose besides the other actions available.
As soon as i do that the "apply" button at the bottom of the results screen is greyed out.

So i cannot chose to ignore a reported result as i wish.

The problem is not about false positives..its about the user gui not allowing full control over ALL actions.

Its only 2 files in the list which i want to apply that action to.. No other results visible. If only closing the window
yields the result of a permanent ignore that would be flawed gui design..not logical choice for me and of course a security
problem as well. But i guess only closing will apply NO action and will have the files be reported again. So i have to
go and put them on the exception list. And that is exactly the complicated thing i wanted to prevent. I simply want to have
the scanner apply the ignore when it gives me the option to do that and remember this choice. Why should that be a problem?

igor already replied you. That will not be any apply for Ignore action. They are already ignored.

So your saying as soon as i chose a option in drop down list and ignroe the apply button just
close the window these actions are applied PERMANENTLY?

I don't know where the "ignore" and "apply" buttons are in Avast scans settings.

If you don't want Avast to scan a file you need to go to "Scan Now"----"Settings"---"Exclusions"----"Browse"----Click on what you want to exclude from the scan and then click on "Add"

Sometimes you have to have to "exclude" and entire folder if you use the "Browse" feature which is what I recommend for excluding files from a scan.

No, not permanently. As said above, stick them to exclusions.

No, there is no "permanent action", ignore or any other.
So yes, the files will be reported again, unless you manually put them into the list of exclusions.

False positives should be fixed by the virus lab - if you submit the files. Excluding false positives is not really a solution, just a temporary workaround.

Thanks. So that is the sort of complicated micromanagement i dont wanna see of
a virus scanner. Same as in avira (which is even more horribe concerning that)

I want to have the feature of permanently ignoring a file as soon as i get the
report about it by selecting the appropriate action from a list of commands.

Since i have a bunch of single files using crypto mechanics which always will
bug a virus scanner with false positive and of course i cannot submit those
files to someone else for security reasons i will probably return to MS Security
Essentials which in its latest version offers the most conveniant mode of operation
concerning user interaction.

If keeping them in one folder and adding an exclusion for that folder in two places (one for all scheduled tasks, the other for filesystem shield) is too much for you, enjoy your experience with MSE. That one has about zero configurability, but to each his own.

P.S. Avast! does not tend to alert just because of "crypto mechanics".

Sorry, but I'm afraid such a feature won't be implemented, the current design is on purpose.
