Add outgoing.verizon.net - SMTP - 587 - None into Avast SSL accounts and see if it works.

Good, thanks for reporting back.

P.S. And shame on Verizon for not supporting encrypted connections.  >:(

I think I'll send them an email about it, see what they say. Are you saying that the problem was Avast assumes encryption by default?

Well, it tries to encrypt whenever possible. Whatever, with a tongue in cheek I would say the following explains the issues pretty much:

Quote

220 vms173009.mailsrvcs.net -- Server ESMTP (Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 7u2-7.02 32bit (built Apr 16 2009))
EHLO smtp.example.com
250-vms173009.mailsrvcs.net
250-8BITMIME
250-PIPELINING
250-CHUNKING
250-DSN
250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES
250-EXPN
250-HELP
250-XADR
250-XSTA
250-XCIR
250-XGEN

Noone sane uses java-based mailservers. ::) ;D

Sorry i forgot its an open source.... Thank god u saved my money..

Oracle (formerly Sun) Java is not really opensource - with cases like this: http://arstechnica.com/open-source/news/2010/08/oracles-java-lawsuit-undermines-its-open-source-credibility.ars

More importantly, Java sucks for way more reasons. Write once, debug everywhere... uh.  ::)

The end of OFF-TOPIC stuff.
