Can't delete files! (avast 6, free)
« on: April 07, 2011, 08:54:33 PM »
I couldn't delete some files, empty r.bin - because my pc(with win xp) was hanging every time.
In safe mode  it was all ok.
I scan PC with different anti-virus program, but all clear.
So, today i try to off avast before emoting - and it's works!!!

Files in use can't be deleted.
You can schedule a boot time scanning.

First why would you want to delete them ?

Deletion isn't really a good first option (you have none left), 'first do no harm' don't delete, send virus to the chest (a protected area) and investigate.

There is no rush to delete anything from the chest, a protected area where it can do no harm. Anything that you send to the chest you should leave there for a few weeks. If after that time you have suffered no adverse effects from moving these to the chest, scan them again (inside the chest) and if they are still detected as viruses, delete them.

Are you using another antivirus (AV) program on your machine besides Avast?  If so, you cannot use 2 AV's on the same machine because they can cause conflicts and problems not to mention false positives if both programs are resident (running all the time).  Turning one program off or disabling it is not the same as uninstalling it.

If you just scanned your machine with another on-demand (not on all the time; in use only when you want it) scanner with Avast on your machine, is fine.

Please clarify if you actually have one AV on your machine or more then one AV and if they are resident or non-resident, and what security software you have on your machine.  Thank you.
