 ;D ;D
I saw it, I think. It contained a link to vote for avast on something IIRC.

I imagine there were a few factors, but one of the main ones would be:

A new user, with his first post containing links throws up flags...could be a reason...
You guessed it  ;D exactly why i reported it as it did look suspicious with the OP only having one post and very little info on the subject that was posted with clickable link's, sure looked like spam to me  ???

you did well ;)... I would have done the same.
;D ;D ;)

most spams are just plain non-sense and are not any near what the website is all about. like when the website is basketball and you are talking about football. A spam is mostly a repetitive non-productive discussion, poll or link.

...many big companies pays more on advertising than the actual production of their products you know why because its in advertising that people are conditioned to be familiar to a product that they can easily remember and distinguish between other products..Same as software marketing..

https://blog.avast.com/2011/01/21/no-advertising-just-recommendations/

Quote
Our advertising is our product:   avast! Free Antivirus.  We believe people will use it, like it and tell their friends about it.     It‘s great because it works indeed.    Ongoing, 67% of all avast! users claim they use the product because it was recommended to them by their friends.

I know avast has a free version but it also has a paid version so its still marketing to me. Otherwise there would be no paid version of avast so whether they advertise or not helping people see what anti-virus most people like through polls helps them think and question what makes avast one of the best anti-virus out there? so in any way or another vote links and polls help avast in someway both helping people choose the right free antivirus and help avast get some happy customers willing to buy the paid version. So its not a waste at all.

When someone joins the forums and their first post is something totally unrelated to the purpose of the official avast support forums (after all that is what we are here for) it is viewed with suspicion, certainly by me.

No preamble join forum post off site link to unknown location, think about it this is a security support site we are going to be suspicious of the intent on a first post.

Then next time better ask yourself first what a spam really is and ask the thread starter to clarify things 1st before clicking the complain button to admins otherwise it would be a rude approach to just trash other people's post.

you're not going to convince anyone here, don't know why you insist, for me and many others on many forums, introducing yourself in a first post/thread the way you did is considered pure spam. As to the informative side of spam, well :D

edit: as to posting such stuff later on, once you've posted about other things, I'd still consider it trolling basically (meaning that my suggestion, posted above, to wait a bit, was absolutely sarcastic).

I am just merely professionally saying what really a spam is. So if you believe that is your definition of a spam then so be it arguing with it further will just go in circles. And that I have no intention of making any non-productive discussion that is not related to avast at all. What further insults me in this thread is some people tries to make fun of me and embarrass me instead of helping me understand about what is happening and why it resulted that way. I do appreciate people who respond properly and explain it to me in a respectful manner.

DavidR tried to do that in this post:

You apparently aren't happy with his reasoning even if it makes perfect sense to most of us.  :)

I am ok with DavidR's explanation its a logical and respectful explanation. I am just surprised no one from the admin tried to explain it to me in a private message or atleast warn me why the post was removed. Does it appeared rude to me..

I am just merely professionally saying...

"professionally" saying what ??? If you feel insulted, why are you staying? on a side note you wouldn't even have the opportunity to discuss that non-sense on a few other security forums. Oh yeah, I do not find your intentions respectable, this should explain why you don't feel respected, at least by me.

Of course i know what spam is, the  word (spam) is used in general clarification to post's that maybe unwanted on the forum, i suggest next time letting the general forum population get to know you before posting link's as this would be classed as forum etiquette.

The problem being the forum Moderators are also avast developers and their time is better spent in developing avast. So time is short so any time to explain in a PM is going to take them away from that work.

You may say it only takes a minute, but it isn't just your case as this forum like many other gets its far share of spammers and perhaps more. So the forum members use the Report to Moderator link to report suspect or definite spam. The moderators will be dealing with a lot of those, including their interaction in support topics in the forums also.

So time is a valuable resource which many not stretch to PMing people about a first post of suspect intent.

I was not logged since you've registered.
But I won't lose a second asking to the OP about the reasons of his first post.
In doubt, with links and pictures, I delete.
