avast 6 error after download

I have windows vista home premium.I downloaded avast 6 and it said everything was fine. Now when I try to start the program it says: C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\AvastUI.exe    The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail.

any help would be appreciated.

In control panel go to programs and features and see if you have Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable present (see attached). If not then follow David's instructions below.
