disk defragmenter problems/avast error
« on: September 30, 2004, 01:27:22 PM »
i have tried running disk defragmenter, i get the following message:

an error occured in file: c:\documents and settings\paul\local settings\temp\_AVAST4_\unp1055636

i have tried disabling avast and using disk clean up. But still disk defragmenter came up with the same error.

I have also checked the computer for disk errors and also choose fix errors, the problem remains.

Help

Just run disk cleanup under start menu > Programs > Accessories.

click on

start

click on

run

type in

defrag c: -f

this will force defrag even if system is low on resources

you can also use

-a Analyze only

-f Force defragmentation, even if free space is low.

-v Verbose output

-? Display this help text

-b Defrags the boot files only. Force all of your most commonly used applications to the edge of the hard drive for faster access

to use these commands
click start click run type
defrag c: -a -b -f
get the idea just seperate them with a space

and as Eddy stated defrag in safe mode.  To do this press and hold the F8 key when you see the windows logo screen, right after the post screen ...err... before entering windows.

diskeeper lite also works and is free, or try the full version as a trial.
