mshata.exe is failing on me
« on: September 30, 2004, 02:50:25 PM »
Hi all,

I had installed Avast in my pd after disabling my existing norton.
it worked fine
I remove norton from my PC, and from then on I keep getting error messages about mshata.exe, and then the window closes.

I wanted to uninstall it and reinstall, but... when I go to the "install new sofware" window, I get the same error message.

HELP!!!!

We need more information before we can help.

Do you mean mshta.exe?
What OS?
What version of Avast?
What is the exact error?
Did you checked system and event log files?
Is there an error in the Avast log file(s)?
Did you use the uninstall util to remove Norton?
etc etc.

Hi again,

The system I'm running is WIndows 2K
Product version: 4.1

I  removed Norton from the "add/remove programs" that was accessible then (not anymore)

Dr Watson says:
"mshta.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows.
You will need to restart the program"

Hi,

but avast is working ok, both mainscanner and resident shield(s) ?
have you done a full scan with avast (thorough scan, archive scan enabled..) ?

- please post a hijackthis-Log for diagnosis: -> http://tomcoyote.org/hjt
- search for/remove any traces of Norton:
Symantec-Link
-> choose the tool/manual removal instructions for your NAV-version and work through them:
NORTON can seriously trip up the system for any following AV's

 ;)
