Unable to use my XP PC after installing the new version
« on: April 20, 2011, 02:42:33 AM »
After installing this new version, I have problems with everything in my XP computer...

Programs take long to start, Firefox freezes completely and I have to wait more than 30 seconds

See my specs in my signature.... anyone having the same problem?

I thought it was and update problem and I have installed avast from scratch again but the problem continues...

What other security are you running on this XP machine? You have tons on Windows 7 but is Avast your only protection on XP?

Everything is the same in both PC's and I just discovered what was happening.

Anyone having compatibility issues with Comodo Firewall and this new Avast Version?

I uninstalled Comodo Firewall and installed PirvateFirewall instead, and now everything is back to normal.

My XP computer is flying...

You have way too much security in the first place. Comodo has D+ which a HIPS. Avast Free 6 has a behavior blocker. Both together is not a good mix. The Windows 7 machine needs only Windows 7 firewall on. Any reason your so paranoid?

Well, the  thing is that I do not have any trouble in my windows 7 ultimate edition computer using Comodo.... That's why I ask if anybody knows about any compatibility issues between Comodo/Avast and a XP SP3 Pc.

I'm not a Comodo user, but there are plenty of people here who do use Comodo FW with Avast.  You do not necessarily need to use Windows 7 FW, although it is better than previous versions of Win FW's.  If you continue to have problems, you may want to upgrade to Avast v. 6.0.1091.

Anyway - I also think you are performing a security-overkill on your PC.
Win Fw + Avast Free + MBAM on demand + (I see you are using) Sandboxie = absolutely sufficient.

I don't trust the XP FW, so I don't blame the OP for wanting a reliable FW for his XP machine.

I trust it - but it's not as easyly configurable, I agree.
