Yea i have a feature request, make it work in windows 8 :P how can you claim support for win8 when your firewall still blocks metro apps and the sandbox is still not working. unless i am missing something here but my sandbox still does not work as of the latest program version on win8
At the moment, we are still running a beta of Windows 8 so until 8/15 when I'll be able to download the actual Windows 8 through my TechNet account,
I or you can't really make that claim.
Unfortunately since I use the free version, I will not be able to test the sandbox issue.

Just for fun i went and grabbed the OEM leak that's been floating around threw it up in a vm and tested still no avast sandbox :P which is sad to see since right on the avast product page they boast support for windows 8 while 2 huge components of the security suite are currently not functional on it.

I wish that the manual sandbox to be available in in free version. It is not an excessive requirement. ;)

I too think it is totally unreasonable to expect to have the full manual sandbox for free (and I use the free version of avast!), there have to be differences in the free and paid versions or who is going to purchase the paid versions.

Without that funding what is going to pay for development and being able to offer a free versions, which is probably one of the biggest competitors to avast Pro, as unlike some other companies the free version isn't completely crippled.

Thug4Real, historically, some features have passed from the paid (pro) to the free version also and the development moves on toward new features and increasing protection. Maybe some day you'll be able to see the sandbox in the free when the paid (pro) gets a lot of other features to its value :)

There is already a Sandbox Feature in the free version but the program controls what should be run sandboxed.
In the free version, that's as much of that feature that's available to us. Just as with some of the other features,
you have 2 choices, either pay for the Pro or Internet Suite or, find another third party program to fill that void.
avast! free is great but, it is lacking some of the great add-ons built into the paid versions.

I have the full AIS package and I never use the manual sandbox. I see no need for it. I got the full suite for the SafeZone which I use for my banking and online shopping. It's browser is faster than any other one I've tried too but less configurable by design. I also have to say that of all the Firewalls I have ever tried, I like the Avast one the best. No annoying HIPS garbage and very adjustable levels of trust for each individual app.

Is there a reason to just use Google Chrome with Avast.  My computer repair guy uninstalled my Mozilla and internet explorer.  I need to use Internet explorer for my work.  Will I be re protected?

I don't know how your computer guy uninstalled IE as it is an integral part of the OS, it is possible to disable the browser element and it should be just as easy to re-enable it.

Since this topic is about the Sandbox / SafeZone - feature requests, if you are talking about why avast uses Google Chrome in the sandbox, it doesn't. The safezone browser is a customised browser version for the safezone, based on the chromium browser.

I understand the SafeZone Browser is called Chromium which is the Open Source version of Chrome.

I think I know why the feature I am asking for is not in the SafeZone browser and most likely never will be but I thought I would ask just in case.

List of Chrome URLs and their purpose

Just like Mozilla Firefox or Opera, Google Chrome ships with a set of internal URLs that you can access for various purposes. From displaying internal information to downloads, looking up crashes or the browser’s experimental features that you can enable to test them out, there is something available for anyone here.

But which pages are available, and what purpose do they serve? The first thing that you need to know is that all Chrome URLs begin with chrome:// followed by one or multiple words afterwards. Multiple words are always hyphenated and URLs never include spaces or special chars in them.

You can display the list of Chrome URLs by loading chrome://chrome-urls/ in the browser. While that gives you a list of available pages, it won’t provide you with information on what purpose they serve, and not all pages that are available actually. You can obviously load them one by one to find out, or look at the list below for faster results.

I tested one of the URLs in SafeZone and it was not accessible.
