[Win Xp] BOSD after upgrading to v6.0.1091
« on: April 26, 2011, 08:51:54 PM »
Hi,

I have just upgraded my two pc's to the new v.6.0.1091 with mixed results. On my computer running Vista x64 everything is running smoothly. On my Windows XP 32 bits it is not running well. I can install the upgrade, but after I've rebooted it, I get a BSOD stating that the aswsp.sys is causing the issue. It furthers states 'STOP 0x0000004 (...)'. That is it. I get this every time I boot the computer untill I remove the Avast antivirus.

My system is:

AMD Athlon 3200+
512 mb RAM
Windows XP Service Pack 3 installed with all updates
Zonelabs Free Firewall

Thanks in advance!

Please, go to folder \windows\minidump and send the newest (recent) .mdmp files for analysis.
There is also C:\Windows\Memory.dmp file.
Better if you can compress (zip), rename it with an unique name, them and add some information about the BSOD and the link for this thread.  ;)
Upload it to this anonymous ftp server: ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming/

Hi,

I don't see any signs of a dump being created. Not in the BSOD, not in the fileystem. It just halts after it has displayed the technical information.

But something weird happened this morning. I turned off the computer yesterday after a BSOD with the avast software installed. This morning I booted into safemode and changed the option that it should not overwrite previous dump files, and rebooted hoping to create a dump file. It did not create anything, but I did receive a different BSOD.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
STOP: 0x0000000A (0x0011FFF0, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x805339C1)

I rebooted into save mode,
found no memory dump,
uninstalled the avast software,
rebooted into normal mode without problems,
reinstalled the avast software,
rebooted,
I got the same BSOD of yesterday

STOP: 0x000000D4 (0xF3A9BA30, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x805339C1)
ASWSP.SYS

This is all the information I can give you at the moment.

To be complete, I'm running Windows XP Professional.

iTsMeNi, some problems avoid the creation of the dump file (for instance, another low level driver/filter for files, like Comodo Time Machine, Rollback RX, etc.). Wrong changes in Windows registry could block the generation also.
Sorry, but I'm not an expert on this. Hope some of the programmers could help.
