Avast real-time shields will not switch on!
« on: April 27, 2011, 09:18:33 AM »
I've just reinstalled Avast after removing it to install a diff antivirus that didn't work. I had to register twice before Avast would work, but the real-time shields still won't turn on even if I use the 'fix now' or 'start now' buttons. I've tried repairing it in the control panel, tried a restart and tried updating it, but still no good. please help!

What was the other AV you installed? Why did you install the other AV?

Most probably there are leftovers of that AV that conflict with Avast now.

Most of the times when someone uninstalls an AV to install another one he does so because he got infected (the OP wrote: installed some other AV that did not work...) - but they don't tell in the first place.  ;D

So I believe in this case it is probable that the reason for Avast to be unfunctional is some kind of malware instead of any leftovers...

That is why I asked "Why"...  8)

They keep you busy installing and uninstalling, repairing the installations for days and days and then all of a sudden you find out that a malware removal was the right way to go.
